Model Comparison

Solid lines are conventional physics-based models; dashed lines and ✦ AI mark machine-learning forecasts. Flags show who publishes each model (🇪🇺 is ECMWF, an intergovernmental European organisation). UKV covers the UK only; a few larger towns and cities abroad are available through GFS and GraphCast.

Columns align by valid forecast time. UKV, ICON-EU and GFS share three-hourly comparison columns; AIFS and GraphCast are six-hourly. A dash means that model has no value for that time or variable. Forecast horizons differ by model. Scroll horizontally to explore the full horizon. Shading marks evening/night hours (18:00–06:00 in the forecast location’s timezone). Lines stop where a model has no data; there is no time interpolation. Rainfall is a rate in mm/h, not an accumulated total; ICON-EU, AIFS and GraphCast use interval averages; GFS uses instantaneous rates. Conditions are indicative IMBER labels. Wind arrows show the direction the air moves.

NOAA/CIRA GraphCast (AIWP): Experimental GraphCast Operational forecasts with GFS initial conditions, produced by NOAA Global Systems Laboratory and CIRA. The AIWP registry permits unrestricted data reuse. Citation: Radford et al. (2025), BAMS 106, E68–E76. NOAA provides these data as is, without a guarantee of accuracy or availability. IMBER samples and converts surface fields; missing cloud cover, humidity and gusts remain unavailable.
IMBER samples the nearest grid cell for a catalogue town. It does not interpolate a forecast to your exact location. No forecast provider endorses IMBER. API and source documentation
